Duck Race; Compost Fair; Challenge 5k, 2k

The 17th Annual Cascadilla Duck Race will be held April 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also featured: The 4-H Cayuga Challenge 5K and 2K at Cass Park and the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County (CCETC) Compost Fair.

Duck Race
At 2 p.m., 3,400 bright yellow rubber ducks will tumble over the falls and float down Cascadilla Creek to the finish line at the Cooperative Extension building, at 615 Willow Ave., Ithaca. The first 50 or more ducks to cross the finish line will win one of more than $15,000 worth of prizes. All proceeds benefit the Tompkins County 4-H Youth Development Program, including 4-H Clubs, Rural Youth Services, 4-H Urban Outreach and Primitive Pursuits.

Individuals who want to benefit the 4-H and have a chance to win one of these prizes need to fill out the form at Chances cost $5 per duck or a "flock" at 5 for $20. purchase chances in person, go to the Cooperative Extension offices weekdays, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. thru 4/21 and Sunday (race day), 10 a.m.-1p.m. Duck orders will be accepted by mail until the close of business on Friday, April 21.

Compost Fair
The Duck Race once again will be held in conjunction with the Compost Fair. At the finish line will be a festival with food, games, prizes, live entertainment, interactive displays, activities for kids and continuous tours of the composting demonstration site. Learn about all of the 4-H Programs in Tompkins County and experience all aspects of composting. Teams of Master Composters will be on hand to answer questions. Prize drawings will be held at 3:30 p.m. for all attendees.
