Guided bird walks and Monday seminar
Guided Beginner Bird Walks
Each Saturday and Sunday morning, free, beginner bird walks along easy Sapsucker Woods Sanctuary trails will be held, guided by members of the Cayuga Bird Club. Walks begin at 7:30 a.m.and last about 1.5 hours. Dress for the weather, bring your binoculars, and meet outside the observatory.
Bird artist book talk
Mia Boynton, a granddaughter of Louis Fuertes and an independent writer, will talk about the research she has done for her recently completed biography of Louis Agassiz Fuertes, “Fuertes Revisited: A Bird Artist in His Setting,” May 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 159 Sapsucker Woods Rd., Ithaca.
She will provide an overview of the business realities of being a bird artist in the early 20th century, sources of inspiration for Fuertes, sources of difficulty, and the ways in which he survived. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. Arrive at 7:15 p.m. for cookies and conversation. Bird club business begins at 7:30 followed by the presentation. Free and open to the public.
