The Cornell University Partners in Sustainability Awards (CUPSA) recognize individuals and teams who have exemplified the sustainability values of Cornell, made significant and notable contributions to the sustainable development and social equity of the Cornell campus, or displayed outstanding partnership for advancing sustainability within our campus and community. Nominate yourself and your team, or other outstanding members of the campus and community, for this award: deadline March 20.

Tropical plants lecture Oct. 14

Marc Hachadourian, director of the Nolen Greenhouses for Living Collections and curator of the orchid collection at The New York Botanical Garden will give the William Hamilton Lecture of Cornell Plantations’ Fall Lecture Series, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Statler Hall Auditorium.  His lecture is entitled “Modern Plant Exploration in the Tropics: The Age of Rediscovery.”

"Peek @ My Apps" presentation

Gary Cremeens, from Transportation Services, and Miyoko Chu, Lab of Ornithology, will share the apps they use for transportation and birding, and invite others to join them, Feb. 13, 10:30-11:30 a.m., at 226 Weill Hall. This free session is the first in a series of "Peek @ My Apps" presentations designed to provide the opportunity to learn about the mobile applications your peers are using, and to share the ones you use. For those who can’t attend in person, the session is also available via WebEx.

Celebrate sustainability at Springfest

Join Touchdown and celebrate SpringFest, campus's annual sustainability celebration, April 25, noon-4 p.m., on the Ag Quad. The afternoon of food, fun and prizes is held in conjunction with Ag Day and also celebrates Earth Day.

Don't forget to bring your full SpringFest punch card (available at any Cornell Dining facility) to redeem for a prize. And if your punch card isn't full, you can fill it up with remaining punches on the Ag Quad.

After completing the registration form, you will receive an email with further instructions on how to track miles. Be sure to use the tracking form (web or paper) to submit your team’s stats by March 1.

Facilities VP named to sustainability association board

KyuJung Whang, Cornell vice president for facilities, has been named to the board of directors of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).

AASHE was founded in 2005 to coordinate and strengthen campus sustainability efforts and to serve as the first North American professional association for campus sustainability. The organization provides resources, professional development and support to administrators, faculty, staff and students in such areas as education, research, governance and operations.
